The Power of a Fallback URL
Your QR code's most important safety net. Never lead a user to a dead end.
What is a Fallback URL?
A fallback URL is a default destination you set for your dynamic QR code. It acts as a safety net, ensuring that if your QR code cannot be redirected to its primary destination for any reason, the user is still sent to a valid and helpful page instead of an error. Think of it as a plan B that always works.
When you create any QR code with ActiveQRs, we require a fallback URL. You can simply use your main destination URL if you don't have a separate page, but having one is essential for reliability.
The Two Critical Jobs of a Fallback
1. The "Off-Switch"
When you pause or expire a QR code from your dashboard, it doesn't just break. Instead, all scans are automatically and instantly redirected to your fallback URL. This is perfect for:
- Ending a limited-time promotion.
- Deactivating a seasonal menu.
- Recalling a batch of products from the market.
Instead of an error, users are gracefully guided to your homepage or a special notice page.
2. The "Catch-All"
When you use powerful routing rules (e.g., redirecting by time, country, or language), what happens if a user doesn't match any of them? The fallback URL is the answer.
- A user from an un-targeted country scans your code.
- A scan happens outside of your scheduled time-based rules.
The fallback ensures that these edge cases are handled perfectly, redirecting them to a default, universal experience.
